Water laps gently against the steps. They creak and groan with motion, worn down by the waves of time. Couples walk hand-in-hand gazing at the buildings, the history, the costumes, and they almost pass it by. Exhausted by the spectacle, they sit for a moment and take it in. An empty gondola sways melodically in rippling water. As they gaze toward the horizon, the crowds drift away.
